Short Sands OR
What Oregon has is a great coastline. Most of Washington is flat "Daytona" style beach, and then the communities in WA are zoning failures, endless sprawls of crappy homes, miles of depressed communities. Oregon got most of it right.
There is good surfing there, and a great walk in campground that is close enough to your car that you can bring in a lot of junk for comfort.
There is my tent in the distance among the hemlocks. It looks like solitude, but really it is very popular campground, so it is no solo camp in the woods.
Walk down for 5 minutes from the camping area and you get such a gorgeous stretch of beach, flanked by two headlands about a half mile apart. We saw whales, waterfalls, blowholes... and LOTS of other surfers. The headlands provide good protection from the wind, so many people go here when the winds are a problem somewhere else.
On this trip we did not score the best surf, but it was still fun to go. No one was visited by the "man in the gray suit" either. Ben Y saw someone get attacked on this very beach.
