Lac22

Lake Twenty-Two, and its wonderful hike in, is the result of an experiment gone right. From the Forest [Dis] Service: This is one of three Research Natural Areas on the district. It was set aside in 1947 to study the effects on water, wildlife, and timber of an area left in its virgin state, as compared to similar areas under intensive management.
In other words, all around this area is slash and burn logging, a real wasteland. Not that we do not need to timber farm, but what has happened all through Washington is the worst kind of timber farming: strip and burn (with no regard to erosion or wildlife), monoculture a new crop and industrially fertilize. Just my opinion.

To get these pics all you have to do is fall out of your car, as all these green photos were taken within one minute of the parking lot.

This time of year, the green gives way to the white, and we got to boot kick in tracks up to the lake.
