Winter surf, Socal style
Like summer in Westport, San Onofre in winter is a sunny and warm heaven for the Nor'Westerners. Actually, summer in Westport rarely gets this nice. We surfed, we tailgated, and surfed some more. Tams friend Laurel and her friend Jill came up from Sandy Eggo to visit. Laurel showed up with a 5'6" twin swallow tail fish that she let me surf; that was a kick. Tam got her best ride ever, a nice drop in at Old Man's that she rode in all the way to shore, maybe a 150 yard long ride. There was a very good swell while we were there. Two days earlier I paddled out at one of the exposed spots (too far out for pics) and managed to take a set on the head that scared me pretty good, but I ended up getting out and having some great rides. -e
