Neoprene Burritos
Surf season is just starting here. One hundred miles or so inland from the coast, when the conditions get just right, the surf can travel down the strait of San Juan de Fuca and break on the shore of Whidbey island. It is mostly a novelty wave, but occasionaly it can get sizeable. Unfortunately today was not one of those days. It was a bit bigger right at first light, but quickly backed off to what you see here, about waist high. The wave has great shape, so there is some speed there even when small. Fun, unique, and no orcas came feeding. There are about 3 resident pods around San Juan Island, which is fairly close. Maybe the kelp is a barrier to the snack bar.
